The bike is nice on its own but Zero offers an optional battery pack to double the effective reach or a triple charger bumping the charging from 3,6 kWh to over 9 kWh, effectively cutting the charging time in third.

Charging

I opted for the triple charger as it increases the flexibility1.

And to be honest, I’d rather drive 2 hours, wait 1 hour and then drive 2 hours again than drive for 4 hours straight and then having to wait 5 hours at an Autobahn rest stop.

Cell Modem removal

One of the biggest concerns I had when buying a new vehicle is the abhorrent trend of manufacturers to send tons of telemetry and remotely meddle with the vehicle.

According to my bike mechanic and his intermediary dealer the bike will only connect to the internet when coupled via Bluetooth and then only after the user confirms this via prompt. He offered to remove the cellular modem module and assured me the bike would work fine without it. I graciously accepted the offer and had it removed.

The only downside is that I now need to visit a shop to install firmware updates instead of OTA. But from what I read on the internet some of the updates need to be installed in a shop regardless.

Sport windshield

I opted for the small windshield for driving comfort. Yes, I am aware that I bought a naked sport bike and put on a shield again. But a smoother ride can’t be argued with.

SHAD case mounts

On-bike storage is always welcome, especially when it’s removable and well integrated2.

I went with the one Zero provides and had it installed professionally by my mechanic. And then put on the 39L top case and the two 32L side cases on. If ordered them at all the same time and got a replacement lock with it, so all three cases now unlock with the same key.

  1. You can still charge slowly if you want, but are able to quickly boost the battery to make it to a destination.

  2. Meaning no worries on rougher terrain or faster speeds that it will fail.
