Last Tuesday I picked up my new electric motorcycle. A Zero S 2024 to be precise.

This marks a major milestone in my life, as countless little decisions and moves in the last decade have all eventually lead to this outcome.

Going electric

The goal always was to go fully electric. Back then, when this decision was made, Zero was the only option on the table. Nowadays there’s others, like Harley Davidson Livewire, Energica or one of the countless Chinese imports.

But I went ahead with the Zero because of their decade of experience in building electric bikes, having a good overall price to performance ratio. All the while providing an acceptable amount of fit and finish.

Purpose

The plan is to use it for extensive travels during summer and to increase my personal mobility and flexibility in general.

140 km/h is plenty for Autobahn rides to be viable and fun. And somewhere around 200 km per charge is fine, too.

Drivers License

For simplicity’s sake I opted for the smaller B196 driver’s license, which limits me to 125cc and at the time of writing is valid within Germany only.

But as of April this year the legal prerequisites to extend this driver’s license to other European countries are in place and all that’s needed now are local laws to make it happen.

This is effectively constitutes a bet on Europe to grow closer together, or if that fails I will have to get a proper motorcycle license.

What now?

I will document my future adventures, modifications and travels here under the motorcycle tag.
